Running for HMC
There are two ways you can support #TeamHMC!
Secure a HMC ticket: We have 10 places available and are looking for enthusiastic fundraisers, who can run on our behalf and help us meet our minimum fundraising target of £500 per runner. Please email info@hackneymigrantcentre.org.uk to apply and provide brief details about why you want to run for Hackney Migrant Centre and how you plan to fundraise. We will provide support throughout your fundraising journey and share fundraising tips and resources.
Secure your own ticket: Already have your own place in the Hackney Half Marathon? Use it to run for HMC and contribute to create a safe and welcoming environment for migrants in Hackney and beyond. You will use your ticket, and we will support your with setting up your own fundraising target. To purchase your own ticket, visit https://www.hackneymoves.com/2027.
Why Run for HMC? The impact of your fundraising
For 18 years, HMC has been at the heart of the community, providing crucial support to migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Since opening our doors, we have assisted thousands of individuals with expert legal advice and practical support addressing immigration challenges, insecure housing, financial hardship, and wellbeing.
‘Fatima* first contacted HMC five years ago when she was homeless and engaging in survival sex work. Persecuted in her home country for her courageous activism against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Fatima fled to the UK seeking safety. HMC stood by her side, helping her navigate the complex asylum process and accompanying her to crucial Home Office appointments. During this challenging time, Fatima discovered she was pregnant, still living in inadequate Home Office accommodation. HMC intervened, securing suitable long-term (temporary) housing where she could safely raise her healthy new-born. HMC also connected Fatima with a befriending service and baby support groups, ensuring she had the emotional and community support she desperately needed. After four long years of uncertainty, Fatima was finally granted refugee status.’ *Fatima is a pseudonym
